Ordinary Disk Format / Quick Format is formatting a disk drive and creating a new file system. Format just test the disk drives for errors and then create a file system. Many old version of Format command also saves the recovery information so as to recover from accidental format of disk. Format is not safe. It only creates a new file system on the top of old one. Entire data is there and can be recovered using a simple Data Recovery tool.
